The FDA and the CDC urge patients and healthcare providers to report adverse events to the FDA’s MedWatch Adverse Event Reporting Program, which helps medical professionals and patients report adverse events in the medical literature. This document is provided to help inform healthcare professionals and patients about drug safety and available medications.

The drugs include the prescription-only medications Viagra and Cialis, which the FDA says could be linked to dangerous side effects or death in patients.

“These drugs are known to increase the risk of heart attacks, strokes and blood clots, which can be life-threatening,” Drabecke said.
“These drugs are also associated with a higher risk of priapism (a painful and prolonged erection) when combined with alcohol or other medications, which can result in permanent tissue damage if not treated,” he added.
“ED drugs can have dangerous side effects, including erectile dysfunction and cardiovascular disease,” he added.
“We urge patients to report adverse events to MedWatch,” said the FDA.
Dr. James L. Rosen, M. D., director of the Center for Drug Evaluation and Research at the National Institute of Health, said the FDA’s letters are the latest step in the effort to protect public health. The drug’s label says the FDA has been warning patients of the risks of unapproved drugs, including sildenafil, tadalafil and vardenafil, among other prescription-only medications.
“The FDA has issued numerous warnings and has not given adequate warnings to patients and healthcare providers that these drugs may pose a risk of serious side effects or death,” he said.
The Food and Drug Administration has not said how many people will experience serious side effects when taking an unapproved, prescription-only drug.
The FDA says the agency’s list of approved drugs includes the drugs that are not approved by the FDA.
